AED1000 For 3 Sessions, Each Session is 3 Hrs
Ready to take the next step in your sewing journey?
Our Intro to Dressmaking course is designed for confident beginners who are ready to move beyond
simple sewing projects and begin making wearable garments. Across three guided sessions, you will learn
how to work with a dressmaking pattern, take accurate body measurements, prepare and cut your fabric, and
construct your very own skirt from start to finish. This course is a practical and enjoyable introduction to garment making,
giving you the confidence to understand patterns, follow construction steps, and create a skirt that is truly made by you.
In the first session, you will learn how to take your body measurements and understand the key parts
of a dressmaking pattern. You will trace the pattern pieces required for your skirt, prepare your fabric correctly,
and cut your pieces with accuracy. You will also be introduced to the construction steps and learn how to follow
the correct sewing order for making a simple garment.
In the second session, you will begin assembling your skirt. You will learn how to sew the main seams,
understand garment construction flow, and start shaping the skirt into a wearable piece. You will also be guided
through essential dressmaking techniques such as working with seam allowance, pressing during construction,
and keeping your sewing neat and accurate.
In the final session, you will complete your skirt by attaching the waistband, inserting elastic or a basic fastening,
hemming the skirt and finishing it neatly. By the end of the course, you will leave with your completed handmade
skirt and a stronger foundation for future dressmaking projects.
This course is suitable for adults who already have basic sewing experience and feel comfortable using a
sewing machine. It is ideal if you have previously completed a beginner sewing class or made simple projects
such as cushion covers, tote bags, or pillowcases, and would now like to start learning garment construction.
The course fee includes:
✔️ Skirt sewing pattern
✔️ Tracing paper
✔️ Elastic or basic fastening materials
✔️ Use of studio sewing machines, tools, and equipment
✔️ Guidance from the instructor throughout all three sessions
✔️ Pattern to keep, so you can make the skirt again at home
You will need to bring your own fabric for the skirt.
You may also bring your own sewing machine if you would like to learn on it. Otherwise, you are
welcome to use one of the machines available at The Sewing Society Design Studio.
For this project, we recommend medium to heavy-weight woven fabrics. Suitable options include
