Stitch & Slay: Intermediate Sewing & Crochet Club

Build your skills. Get support. Finish your projects with confidence.

Stitch & Slay is our intermediate sewing and crochet club designed for adults who already have basic experience

and would like guided support while working on their own projects. Whether you are stuck on a sewing pattern,

need help inserting a zip, want to understand lining or interfacing, or need guidance with your next crochet project,

this class gives you the space, tools, and instructor support to keep moving forward. This is not a complete beginner class.

It is ideal for those who already know the basics and are ready to improve their technique, solve project challenges,

and achieve a cleaner, more professional finish.

Who This Class Is For

This class is suitable for adults who have basic sewing or crochet knowledge and would like help with a specific project or skill.

It is perfect if you:

  • Can confidently use and control a sewing machine
  • Have completed beginner sewing projects before
  • Can sew straight lines and follow a seam allowance
  • Want support with zippers, pockets, lining, interfacing, or construction steps
  • Are working on a sewing project and feel stuck at a particular stage
  • Know basic crochet stitches such as chain stitch or single crochet
  • Need help reading or continuing a crochet pattern
  • Want to improve your finishing and overall confidence
  • Prefer learning in a relaxed, small-group studio setting

Complete beginners are advised to join our Beginner Sewing Class or Intro to Crochet Class first.

What You Can Get Help With

During the class, our instructor can guide you through a variety of intermediate sewing and crochet techniques, including:

  • Understanding sewing pattern instructions
  • Correct fabric preparation and cutting advice
  • How and when to use interfacing
  • Neat zipper insertion
  • Adding pockets
  • Working with lining and structured layers
  • Understanding construction order
  • Improving seam accuracy and finishing
  • Help with crochet stitches and pattern reading
  • Support with joining, shaping, and finishing crochet projects
  • General troubleshooting on your current project

Please note that this class is for support on existing projects and skill development. Pattern drafting

or copying an existing garment is not included in this club.

Bring Your Own Project

For this class, you will bring your own sewing or crochet project.

Please bring:

  • Your fabric or yarn
  • Matching thread
  • Pattern or instructions, if you are using one
  • Any special trims, zips, buttons, elastic, or fastenings required for your project
  • Your crochet hook or sewing notions, if preferred

For sewing projects, we recommend cutting your pattern and fabric before class where possible,

so you can make the most of your guided session time. You may also bring your own sewing machine

if you would like to practice on it. Otherwise, you are welcome to use one of the studio machines at The Sewing Society.

FAQ'S

What makes this studio different?

We combine:

• Industrial + domestic machines

• Educational programmes

• Community-led initiatives

• Retail & technical support

• Safe, inclusive, mindful creative space

It is the first multifunctional sewing ecosystem in the region.

What is The Sewing Society Design Studio?

It is the GCC’s first-of-its-kind creative sewing hub — a fully equipped, professional studio where individuals can learn, design, sew, develop skills, and connect with a vibrant creative community.

Who is the studio for?

Hobbyists, beginners, advanced makers, designers, tailors, entrepreneurs, students, and anyone ready to explore creativity through sewing.

Do I need experience?

Not at all. Whether you’re threading a needle for the first time or perfecting couture finishing, we support every level.

Can I host my own classes?

Yes — skilled makers and educators can rent our space and run their own workshops.

Can sewing help mental wellness?

Absolutely. Sewing is grounding, calming, and therapeutic — and we designed this studio as a place to reset and reconnect.

Is this session right for me?

Absolutely—our Studio Rental Sessions are designed for anyone who is comfortable using a sewing machine, whether you are a beginner, hobbyist or professional.

Because our team supports multiple classes and members simultaneously, we won’t be able to offer one-to-one instruction during rental time, but we are always nearby for basic guidance.

What happens if I finish early?

Great job! However, your booking is for a fixed time slot, and we are unable to:

• Offer that time to someone else

• Credit unused minutes to your account

• Issue refunds for early completion

Next time, feel free to bring an extra project in case you move quicker than expected.

Can I stay longer if I’m not finished?

If a machine or workstation is available, yes!

Studio rental is charged by the hour:

• AED 120/hour – General Public

• AED 70/hour – Sewing Society Members

All bookings must finish by 6:00 PM so our team can prepare for evening classes.

What equipment is available?

Everything you need! We currently offer:

• High-quality domestic, semi-industrial & Industrial sewing machines

• Overlock/serger machines

• Steam irons and ironing stations

• Cutting mats, rotary cutters, scissors (left-handed too!)

• Threads, elastics, buttons, interfacing

• Rivets, hardware, tools, bias tape, stay tape

• Essential sewing tools, measuring tools and more

If it’s visible in the shared area (and not part of our private stock), you are welcome to use it.

Who cleans up?

We believe in a shared, respectful workspace.

Please return your station to its original setup, put tools back, and do a quick clean—especially if you worked with messy materials like fur, sequins, or glitter.

Why can’t I book just one hour?

Trust us—one hour isn’t enough.

By the time you set up your machine, thread, test, organize your fabric, and get settled, you’ll already be packing up.

We recommend:

• Minimum: 2 hours

• 3 hours for a smooth, productive session

• Full-Day Session if you want to sew, relax, grab lunch, and get real work done

When can I start booking?

Right away! Once you log into your account, your membership pricing will automatically apply, and you’ll gain access to the online member portal.

Booking in advance is recommended, but walk-ins are welcome when space allows.

Can I book for a friend or child using my membership?

Yes!

You may book discounted sessions for friends or family as long as you attend with them.

If a discounted booking is made under your membership and you do not attend, the guest will be charged the full non-member hourly rate before starting their session.

What if my membership expires but I still have a booking?

Membership must be active to use member pricing.

If your membership has lapsed, your discounted booking will be cancelled and refunded, and you may rebook at standard rates.

Please keep your membership active to enjoy uninterrupted benefits.

When can I drop in? What can I do?

Members may drop in during opening hours:

Monday-Saturday, 10 am – 6 PM

We cannot always guarantee machine availability or extended assistance, but the space is open for:

• General sewing

• Hand-stitching or knitting

• Pattern prep

• Quick project work

• Creative downtime

If you use machines/equipment without a pre-booking, the hourly member rate will apply at checkout.

How do I get my member discounts?

Just log into your account—your discounts are applied automatically at checkout.

Can I cancel a workshop booked with my membership discount?

Yes. You may cancel up to 7 days before the start date for a full refund.

After that, bookings become final.

Refunds (if applicable) are processed instantly through our payment provider and may take up to 10 business days to appear, depending on your bank.
